Press Release

TrueCity announces, after 21 years of service, Dave Witt will be transitioning out of his Network Developer Role

Dave’s urban missionary work initially laid the foundation for our churches to form TrueCity. His commitment to cultivate collaboration, trust, and shared mission has contributed significantly to TrueCity’s growth and impact in Hamilton. This transition creates the opportunity to benefit from the fresh perspective, energy, and vision that a new Network Developer can bring.

Our churches are deeply grateful for Dave’s leadership and look ahead with hopeful anticipation as we begin this next chapter of being churches together for the good of the city.

ABOUT:

TrueCity is a network of Hamilton churches that partner together to embody the Gospel in our neighbourhoods and across the city. Together through prayer, encouragement, and collaboration, we seek to see the Kingdom of God made visible for the good of the city. Organizationally, TrueCity exists as a supported project of the Great Commission Foundation. This person will succeed our current Network Director, who has served faithfully in this role since TrueCity began in 2004.

JOB PURPOSE/OBJECTIVES:

The focus of the Network Director (ND) is to grow and strengthen the TrueCity network by collaborating with Hamilton’s churches, laypeople, clergy, and charities. The ND will ensure that our mission drives all that we do or plan to do, and that all we do or plan to do supports our mission.

PLEASE NOTE: This role requires (a) agreement with TrueCitys Partnership Agreement, (b) commitment to collaboration according to our Terms of Reference, and (c) agreement with the Statement of Faith and Code of Conduct of the Great Commission Foundation.

CORE COMPETENCIES:

  •  LEADERSHIP: By their apostolic leadership, the ND embodies and promotes the values of TrueCity. They confidently make difficult, proactive decisions and manage the risks. This person is a self-starter, able to turn vision into goals, goals into strategies, and discern how best to move into new situations independently. They deal comfortably with the unexpected or critical, embrace projects requiring high trust and responsibility, and do not require constant supervision, direction, or input. They inspire, motivate, and lead others to better performance.

  • FOSTERING TEAMWORK: The ND works cooperatively and effectively with others to set goals, resolve conflicts, and make decisions that enhance our effectiveness. S/he establishes and maintains positive working relationships with individuals, churches, and charities, and they work harmoniously to get the job done. As the public face of the Network, the ND will have a centre-set posture on secondary theological matters, and will not publicly undermine nor cause to be undermined the mission, values, or theological distinctives of the Network.

  • INTEGRITY: The ND maintains high ethical standards in his/her life and work, owing to an acute sense of God's standards and grace. S/he is dependable to get work done on time, and with excellence. The ND is active in his/her own congregation where s/he is known for being above reproach in his/her speech and actions.

  • COMMUNICATION: The ND writes and speaks effectively for his/her audience and purpose. S/he listens carefully, states opinions and problems with clarity, seeks input and feedback, asks good questions, and freely offers encouragement / correction / clarification.

  • FUNDRAISING: The ND will generate financial support for TrueCity by seeking out new funding sources while maintaining current ones. Successful fundraising will allow this position to be increased from part- to full-time, and for the ND’s salary to increase accordingly.

  • CONFLICT MANAGEMENT: The ND is adept at resolving conflicts between churches or their leaders. S/he is a natural peacemaker and mediator, seeking the best outcome for all involved.

  • PLANNING/GOAL-SETTING: The ND sets goals and makes strategic plans for achieving them, allocating sufficient time and resources. S/he evaluates the process and results of the Network’s strategies, and can suggest and implement necessary improvements.

  • STEWARDSHIP: The ND role involves a great deal of autonomy; s/he can be trusted to make strategic, Kingdom-focused decisions related to the Network’s resources (e.g., funds), assets (e.g., technology), time, and most of all, relationships.
