God is at Work in Little Bethel Community Church

Written by Debbie Iversen, Pastor of Little Bethel Community Church

When I returned from my Sabbatical on September 2nd, what a surprise I got my first Sunday back! Among other beautiful surprises were 6 new people. Since then, some Sunday mornings we’ve had to add chairs in the sanctuary!

Actually, in the past 15 months we have seen about 15 new people start attending Little Bethel Community Church. Some of them were people who had stopped attending their church during the pandemic and friends invited them to come to Little Bethel. Since then, they have been coming every week. It started to feel like our church before COVID.

In particular, there was a Hindu family that started coming about a year ago. They said God made it clear to them to start coming to Little Bethel! They have been so eager to learn about God, and what a privilege it has been to see them come to faith and grow spiritually.

Another way God has showed up at Little Bethel is through answered prayers. I had been praying quite a while for God to bring not one, but two handymen. Yes, you read that correctly. Little Bethel is small, but our building is old. This fall, I realized God had given me exactly what I asked for. Two men in the church started fixing the porch, the basement walls, removing the snow… I jokingly, but somewhat seriously said to God, “Don’t forget the rest of the list of skill sets we need at Little Bethel.”

This fall has seen 8-10 people attending prayer time on Tuesday mornings and about 15-20 attending Bible study Tuesday evenings. This is a reflection of the beauty of our family at Little Bethel; not only do people have a sweet and willing spirit, but they are hungry for God! There is such a beautiful sense of community, not centered around the pastor, but centered around God and each member of our faith family.

God is always faithful. He always shows up. Sometimes there are periods of plowing, sowing, waiting, but then comes harvest. We need only be faithful to experience the goodness of God.
